How will you quantify impact?
One aspect of our project is difficult to quantify because it dealt with awareness. It is difficult to quantify this type of impact solely because we cannot count the exact number of people we have made aware. We have stayed in contact with the mechanics at the bus lot and hope to hear updates on their progress. We have also made at leas 40 school parents aware of the impact of tire pressure by talking to them and handing out flyers in the car-pool line. We have also made the entire Upper School student and faculty body aware by presenting our project and video at an assembly. Word of mouth travels quickly so we hope that by our actions and talking among our peers, that our entire community will be aware of the impact. Awareness is key to our whole project because the more that the members of the community are aware of the simple solution, the greater the impact we will have.
Another aspect of our project though, is very tangible and easy to quantify. After researching and mathmatical reasoning we were able to quantify our team's impact on the climate. If the buses that we tested at the local bus lot (28 buses) were all fixed to their proper tire pressure, 7840 lbs of CO2 would be prevended from entering the atmosphere! If all of the buses in the lot, 111 buses, were properly inflated, 31,080 lbs of CO2 would be prevented from entering into the atmosphere.
