Our team took action to inform our community about the importance of properly inflated tires. Our first step to doing this was through an assembly at school: the Green Gators presented our project to our school community and described the Lexus Challenge. We created and showed a step-by-step video on taking tire pressure; now, our school community is well informed and ready to help. We also handed out flyers, created a website, and created a Facebook group to raise awareness. We took action on our second goal as well. We called many local groups that contained fleets of vehicles. We decided to follow through with a local school bus lot, because school buses are very relevant in our lives. We chose a portion of the lot and measured the tire pressure of 28 buses on two different days. After our trips to the bus lot, we asked the lot managers to reinforce tire maintenance as a mandatory part of weekly bus maintenance. The managers were very helpful and responded well to our suggestion.
