Why is this issue important to your team?
Companies with large fleets of cars consume lots of fuel, and with global warming and dwindling resource of oil it seems that this is a logical place to start planning. The issue of tire pressure is important to our team because it is relevant in all of our lives. Cars are a major focus in the battle against climate change. But our team did not focus on the usual components of cars in relation to global warming. Instead of dealing directly with gas mileage, we focused on tire pressure. Tire pressure for cars and especially buses makes a noticeable difference in fuel economy. At the beginning of the project, we considered it a small aspect of the causes of climate change. But we have learned that under-inflated tires produce huge amounts of excess carbon dioxide emissions collectively in America. The seemingly small issue has profound impact! This made it very important to us. It was important that we dealt with school buses because, as students, they are very relevant in our current lives. As high school students it is feasible for us to help companies and people conserve fuel simply by raising awareness when it comes to tire pressure. We are helping people conserve fuel with simple adjustments to tire pressure. This is helping the environment, and the people who will have spent less money on gas. As high school students we can make small changes that will give big companies time to re-engineer the car to be environmentally friendly.
